Speaking Engagements

What I speak about..

In my public speaking engagements, I provide solutions for communities—locally, nationally, and internationally to understand how publics remember and sometimes misremember histories of slavery, racial violence, and systemic oppression. Drawing from research on memory spaces, lynching memorials, former slave plantations turned museums, and other sites of commemoration, I examine how these spaces can challenge sanitized narratives, amplify marginalized voices, and foster a more truthful understanding of the past. I also look at how memory travels across communities, shaping local experiences while connecting to broader national and global conversations about justice, equity, and remembrance. I speak on racial reckoning, physical and mental liberation, community healing, and the power of counter-memory to transform how societies understand and engage with history. My speaking events emphasize the connections between past and present, showing how historical harms continue to affect communities today and how acknowledgment can lead to transformation and healing. By centering stories from diverse communities, I equip audiences with language, historical context, and practical solutions to foster honest dialogue, build trust across differences, and support collective healing. Audiences leave with strategies to create spaces—whether in neighborhoods, schools, civic organizations, or cultural institutions—that confront injustice, celebrate resilience, and honor shared humanity. Whether the focus is local history, national patterns, or international parallels, my talks aim to inspire reflection, connection, and meaningful action toward stronger, more just, and more connected communities worldwide.

Racial Reckoning & Transformative Dialogue

I speak to invite audiences into thoughtful racial reckoning by exploring how historical harm—from slavery, racial violence, and systemic oppression—continues to shape local communities today. I focus on helping neighborhoods, schools, faith groups, and civic organizations recognize the lingering impact of these histories in everyday life. Through open and guided discussion and dialogues, I guide communities in facilitating courageous conversations that acknowledge past injustices, foster accountability, and break cycles of silence or avoidance. These engagements include practical strategies for building trust, creating inclusive dialogue spaces, and connecting historical understanding to actionable steps for change. By centering local experiences and stories, I help participants see how collective memory and community commemoration can transform relationships, support healing, and inspire collaborative efforts to build more equitable and resilient communities.

Healing, Resilience & Community Celebration

In addition to confronting difficult histories, I talk about ways communities can heal and come together to celebrate their strength and resilience. I focus on real, practical approaches that neighborhoods, local organizations, and families can use to honor their shared stories, remember those who came before, and lift up the voices that have often been overlooked. My talks highlight the importance of creating spaces—whether in schools, community centers, faith groups, or public gatherings—where people can reflect, connect, and support one another. We explore how joy, storytelling, art, and shared celebrations can strengthen bonds, recognize survival and cultural pride, and help communities move forward with hope and purpose. By centering everyday experiences and local voices, these events show that healing isn’t just about looking back—it’s about building stronger connections today and creating a foundation for a more just and connected future.
